True, the emphasis on women undertaking meaningful work outside the home is something we should not lose sight of, but I think Friedan failed to be truly radical in favor of appealing to a wider audience. She speaks not only exclusively to the white middle-class woman's experience but also as though that experience was the only experience of womanhood. In addition, she fails to take men to task for their complicity in patriarchy. "The institution" is not something that falls from the sky; it is real, and real men perpetuate and benefit from it.

In that vein, I would like to recommend the works of Simone de Beauvoir, bell hooks, Catharine MacKinnon, and anything you can find by Dr. Suzanna WaltersAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12849665583656139644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4236115166770917790.post-48127740246019412682010-10-24T13:16:58.430-07:002010-10-24T13:16:58.430-07:00@LazyDaisy - Thank you so much for reading! However, one thing that disturbed me was her strong anti-porn position, as she seemed to oppose not pornography in its present state but pornography as such.
Apart from that... great vid. Hadn't seen it in ten years or something. :-)Adamantinehttp://ada-nolovelost.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
